home restoration dreams

This period home in Pennsylvania is such a gem! So beautifully restored and just packed with charm and character of real stone and wood beams and floors. Who wouldn't like to have a kitchen that can fit an island larger than 10-person dining table, a gigantic double-cooker and has an abundance of counter top and storage space.

The arched hallway makes me think of an old castle, and the impression is accented by the wide and so natural-looking floor planks. There is beauty both in the structure and the interiors!

regent's park splendour

How would you like to live in this splendid place in the the heart of West End in central London, with views over the Regent's Park and lake? This certainly is about location, location, location - and a very unique one indeed.

Silk House is one of eight unique and elegant homes newly converted from this magnificent Grade 1 listed Regency terrace. (Grade 1 listing = a  building in the United Kingdom which has been placed on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest are require special permission for renovations).

These homes certainly are not small - they range from 8000 sq ft  to 14000 sq ft (745 m2 to 1,325 m2) and, in addition, will each be sold with a separate 2 bedroom mews and garage. The interiors are exactly shabby either - there are  polished hardwood floors and doors, hand-cut Italian marble, period fireplaces, cornicing and other decorative detailing. What could be better than living in a historic house with all the mod-cons to go with it - you would get air-cooling, IT and audio/visual systems and hydraulic lifts.

I just wrote about the design highlights of Norman Foster inlcuding his Chesa Futura house. I was also able to find the interiors to to showcase that building in more detail - two apartments done by the exclusive David Linley.

This company offers it all - bespoke and collector's furniture, regular collection of furnishings and accessories and interior design services.  Modern contemporary designs as well as more classic ones using traditional materials and craftsmanship.

They have also furnished two apartments in the famous modern Normal Foster apartment building Chesa Futura in St. Moritz. Spacious and modern places with views to die for. First apartment in Chesa Futura focuses more on displays of collectables and more formal and bare, almost high-end office-like interiors.

Second apartment in Chesa Futura uses more colour as central theme for each room - and plenty of cushions to soften the tones

This second part of the Filoli estate tour concentrates on the main house. Grand rooms with even grander doorways and very high ceilings.

Lovely furniture and lot of fresh flower arrangements also, since Filoli is known for its flowers and the vast array of educational offerings such as arts, gardening and flower arrangemens. I would love to take one of those courses later on this year.
